Kathmandu, Nepal — After days of disruption, life in Kathmandu is gradually returning to normal following the lifting of a curfew and the resumption of public transportation. The curfew, enforced by the Nepal Army since Tuesday night amid widespread demonstrations, was officially lifted on Saturday morning, allowing residents to move freely and businesses to reopen.

Public transport, which had been suspended throughout the valley, began operating again on Friday in limited numbers and saw a significant increase in activity by Saturday morning. Buses from Chitwan have resumed their routes to Kathmandu, and taxis and public buses are now available from the airport, easing travel for locals and visitors alike.

During Monday’s protests, public vehicles operated in select areas outside New Baneshwor, while most of the valley remained under strict suspension. The demonstrations led to damage in several commercial areas, prompting a citywide sanitation effort early Saturday to clean and restore affected shops.

With the army withdrawing from the streets, residents are cautiously optimistic as daily routines begin to resume. The reopening of shops and the return of public services mark a hopeful step toward stability in the capital.
