A newly constructed building of Shankar Bhawan Secondary School in Bheri Municipality-2 was officially inaugurated and handed over today, marking a significant milestone in the region’s post-earthquake recovery efforts. The project was made possible through the financial assistance of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Australia, which contributed AUD 25,000 raised by Nepalis living in Australia.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Anil Pokharel, President of NRNA Australia, who expressed his joy in supporting the reconstruction of the school, which had been severely damaged during the Jajarkot earthquake of 2079 BS. Technical assistance for the project was provided by Yarsan Jajarkot, ensuring the building met modern educational standards.
“Relief was also distributed during the earthquake by the Nepali community in Australia,” Pokharel said. “Later, we collected additional support for the construction of this school, and we will continue such cooperation in the future.”
Construction of the building began eight months ago, and classes have already commenced in the new facility for the current academic session. President Pokharel emphasized that the contribution came from various organizations and individuals across Australia, reflecting a strong sense of solidarity within the diaspora.
Surya Prakash Singh, President of the School Management Committee, extended heartfelt thanks to NRNA Australia for their generous support. The event was attended by Vice President Shambhu Gaysi, Regional Coordinator of NRNA Oceana Dinesh Pokharel, students, and local residents, all celebrating the successful completion of the project.
This initiative stands as a testament to the enduring bond between Nepalis abroad and their homeland, and highlights the power of community-driven development in times of need.
